C., THURSDAY, MAY 16, 1935 NUMBER FORTY-SEVEN 5 GENERATIONS ALIVE HERE FIVE generations of the same family live in Roanoke Rapids. They are Mrs. Bettie Inscoe, 95; her son, D. A. Inscoe, 73; his son, F. L. Inscoe, 43; his daughter, Mrs. J. B. Reid, 21; and her daughter, Hattie Pearl Reid, 21 months. Mrs. Inscoe is the wife of the late Henry Inscoe who died in 1909 at the age of 75. He was a Civil war veteran. Last Sunday Mrs. Inscoe attended Mother’s Day service at the Meth odist Church, was given flowers for the oldest mother present, is probably oldest mother and one of oldest persons alive in Halifax County. LOCAL PATROL TROOP 42 AT STATE J AMBOREE COUNTY CALL LIQUOR CONTROL ELECTION There will be a specia meeting of the County Board of Commissioners within the next few days to decide whether or not and if so when to call a special elec tion for Halifax County to vote for or against the liquor control act for this county. Commissioner Wrenn was told tonight by J. Waldo Whittaker, Board chairman, that the delay was because the Board had no printed copy of the new act. Upon receipt of this and advice of County , Attorney George C. Green, J Mr. Whittaker said ii'J would I call the Board into specia!' session. Mr. Wrenn has been impor tuned by many Roanoke Rap ids citizens to ask the Boar, to take quick action on th< matter. I BOARD WILL SPECIAL MEET -- ^ SENATOR ALLSBROOK is back home after a notable record in the 1935 Legislature. Next week his complete record will be printed. CLEARING GROUNDS THIS WEEK Work on the two new city buildings for Roanoke Rapids will start here on Tuesday, May 21st, according to news received from both contract ing firms by Mayor Kelly Jenkins today. The ground for the Post office Building is now being cleared of trees. S. M. Thomp on of this city has that con tract. The building will be constructed b y James I. Barnes Co. of Logansport, Ind. The other will be built by Lee WKeeden Co. of Roanoke Rapids. « TRIPLE WINNERS KERR MEDAL Seated, Dorothea Matthews; standing, Mildred Stallings and Claudeline Lewis, three graduates of the Aurelian Springs High School this year who attained the same academic average for the four years, 95.5, thus making it necessary for Congressman John H. Kerr to give three medals instead of the usual one for highest High School record. Judge Kerr has given this honor medal for the past twelve years.
